Update, 27 April 2000:  The remains of two diamondback terrapins were recovered from a mud pool in the salt marsh south of Fox Island on Wellfleet's Indian Neck. Both were breeding females, one eight years old and the other more than 12; neither had been previously marked.  Today’s turtles bring the total to 79 dead terrapins found within the Fox Island Wildlife Manage Area this year.  For comparison, the remains of six terrapins were discovered in the similar marsh habitat south of Lieutenant Island, two in the marshes adjacent to Old Wharf, and one in the extensive marshland surrounding the Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary.
